The
Department of Entomology relocated from Patterson Building to the 5th
floor of the newly built Agricultural Sciences and Industries Building
(ASI) in 1991. This area features eighteen modern laboratories, growth
chamber facilities and office space for faculty, staff and students. Greenhouse facilities are available nearby.
Chemical Ecology Lab (formerly known as
Pesticide Research Lab) The Chemical Ecology Lab is located on Orchard Road near the main campus.
Four faculty members have offices and labs at this location along with
several post docs and graduate students. A new greenhouse facility was recently added to the Lab providing space for research projects in a high-tech, state-of-the-art greenhouse environment. Additional greenhouse facilities and the
Gypsy Moth Research Center are also located in this area.
The
Frost Entomological Museum
The Frost Entomological Museum is located on Curtain Road across from
the ASI Building in Headhouse III. The research collection is comprised
of over 2,000,000 specimens of insects representing at least 15,000 species.
A Butterfly House is adjacent to the museum maintains various life stages
of Monarch butterflies during several months of the year. The Museum and
Butterfly House are popular stops for campus visitors and school groups.
Russell
E. Larson Agricultural Research Center
The Entomology Farm is located at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural
Research Center in the Rock Springs area, approximately 10 miles west
of campus. The Entomology Farm consists of 88 acres of test plots used
for a wide range of faculty and student research projects.
Fruit
Research and Extension Center
The Fruit Research and Extension Center is located in Biglerville in southcentral
Pennsylvania. The Center, which is situated on over 125 acres of land,
is part of the research and extension division of the College of Agricultural
Sciences. Research is conducted at the Center for improving methods of
fruit production, better pest and disease control programs, and improved
fruit storage methods.
Lake
Erie Regional Grape Research and Extension Center
The Center is located on 40 acres about 15 miles east of Erie and is part
of a cooperative effort between Penn State and Cornell University. Research
projects involve testing vineyard disease and insect controls.
