THE ENTOMOLOGY GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION

This organization provides every graduate student in the department with an open forum to discuss ideas, opinions, and concerns regarding their education, departmental and university policies, and social activities.

Through elected or appointed officers and representatives, suggestions, items of concern, etc., can then be taken directly to the faculty and departmental administration, and the university Graduate Student Association. The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is the representative body for graduate students, and is charged with designating graduate student representatives to a number of committees throughout the University. All students are automatically members of the Association. This volunteer organization provides services such as graduate student orientation, programs, workshops on topics including financial aid and writing grant proposals, social activities such as free movies and concerts, and University insurance information. The GSA maintains communication among its members through its monthly newsletter, The Daily Collegian, scheduled meetings, and informal use of the Kern Graduate Commons. The GSA publishes annually the Guide to Graduate Life (click on the link near the top of the page), an informal introduction to both the University and the community.

Officers and positions of the Entomology GSA include president (two), treasurer, GSA representative, Entomological Society of America/Eastern Branch representative; representatives to the departmental faculty meetings and the following Committees: Awards, Candidacy, Instruction, Nominations, Recruiting, Safety, Seminar, Space Planning, Public Outreach, Social, and special situations as needed.

The Graduate Student Association office is at 111B Kern Graduate Building, (814) 865-4211. Graduate students are encouraged to take questions or suggestions about graduate life to the GSA office.
