Frost Entomological Museum Displays

We fit a lot of insect information into a small display area at the Frost Museum. Here are a few of the things you'll find when you visit:

Working Beehive - This hive was brought to the Frost Museum in the Spring of 2004. It had been split off of one of the Department of Entomology's research hives. Click here for pictures.

Live Arthropod Zoo - We keep a number of live insects, arachnids, and other arthropods on display. Click here to meet our critters.

  • We have recently updated several of our displays, and plan to update more in the future. Current displays include:
  • Insects of Pennsylvania - examples of typical insect groups found in Pennsylvania.
  • Tropical insects - large and colorful insects from the tropics
  • What is an Insect? - describes what makes and insect an insect and how it is different from other animals.
  • Why Study Insects? - explains the importance of insects in our world.
  • There's a fly in my soup! - reports on which insects are common foods in other cultures, and how you may be eating insects without even knowing it.
  • Forensic Entomology - how insects help us to solve crimes.
  • Stuart W. Frost - the museum's namesake lead a full and interesting life, and collected hundreds of thousands of insects!
  • Frederick V. Melsheimer - the father of American Entomology, he lived and worked in colonial Pennsylvania.
  • Insect evolution
  • Invasive insects
  • Many more!
