The
PINBIOP Mission Statement:
PINBIOP
promotes documentation and monitoring of invertebrate biodiversity
in Pennsylvania through research, publications, education and outreach
programs, database development and coordination, and the identification
and enhancement of taxonomic expertise within the state. PINBIOP
coordinates and prioritizes invertebrate biodiversity issues for
Pennsylvania's state agencies and conservation organizations, supports
recognized systematics collections of Pennsylvania's invertebrates,
and advises both the public and private sector on invertebrate management.
Activities
and Projects:
- Inventory
and monitor the invertebrate fauna of Pennsylvania including the
status of their habitats and distribution with focus on specific
public lands, threatened or endangered habitats, and invasive
species
- Provide the
basis for a statewide, publicly accessible database of Pennsylvania's
invertebrates, the Pennsylvania Invertebrate Biodiversity Database
- Identify
and foster taxonomic expertise within Pennsylvania by coordinating
taxonomic workshops and by promoting and facilitating the graduate
training of experts in taxonomy and conservation of invertebrate
animals.
- Support and
coordinate recognized systematics collections of Pennsylvania's
invertebrates
- Publish and
make available scientific information on Pennsylvania's invertebrates
to the scientific community, general public, state and federal
agencies, conservation community and legislative bodies
- Educate the
public on the importance of arthropods and other invertebrates
as vital partners for ecosystem functions and as a resource for
all Pennsylvanian
