Activities
PINBIOP's members
are involved year-round in invertebrate research, education, and
conservation efforts across the state. Members also gather for PINBIOP's
yearly conference to discuss current research activities, determine
research needs, and plan future projects.
Ongoing
PINBIOP Activities:
- Inventory
and monitor the invertebrate fauna of Pennsylvania including the
status of their habitats and distribution with focus on specific
public lands, threatened or endangered habitats, and invasive
species
- Provide the
basis for a statewide, publicly accessible database of Pennsylvania's
invertebrates, the Pennsylvania Invertebrate Biodiversity Database
- Identify
and foster taxonomic expertise within Pennsylvania by coordinating
taxonomic workshops and by promoting and facilitating the graduate
training of experts in taxonomy and conservation of invertebrate
animals.
- Support and
coordinate recognized systematics collections of Pennsylvania's
invertebrates
- Publish and
make available scientific information on Pennsylvania's invertebrates
to the scientific community, general public, state and federal
agencies, conservation community and legislative bodies
- Educate the
public on the importance of arthropods and other invertebrates
as vital partners for ecosystem functions and as a resource for
all Pennsylvanians.
