Aphididae (slide collection)

The museum houses 32,780 slides representing about 150,000 specimens of Aphididae in the John O. Pepper Aphid Collection. The collection consists of high quality microscope slides containing phylogenetic, biogeographic, ecological, and biological information. The collection is one of the largest in North America with 178 genera and 1029 species (about 75% of the North America fauna north of Mexico).

The collection includes 195 paratypes, 41 topotypes, and one holotype. Nine holotypes generated from research on this collection are housed at the Systematics Entomology Laboratory Collection in Beltsville, MD.

The Museum is currently working to obtain funding support for a computerized database for the Pepper collection as the first step in developing a searchable web database for the entire Frost Museum collection.
